New Fusion will keep its current array of powertrains. Hybrid and Energi plug-in hybrid versions will also continue with same performances as before. This means that 2016 fusion Hybrid model will combine a 2.0-liter 4-cylinder engine with an electric motor (powered by a lithium-ion battery pack) in order to deliver max output of 188 hp. Front-wheel drive and CVT also remain. 2016 Ford Fusion Energi plug-in hybrid offers slightly better output of 195 hp and higher top speed rates than regular hybrid version, mainly thanks to larger battery pack. Regular Fusion sedan comes with a 2.5-liter 4-cylinder engine rated at 175 horsepower and 175 pound-feet of torque, as standard for base two trims. Middle trim, SE, will continue to offer three engine choices. Those choices include a 1.6-liter four-cylinder (182 hp and 184 lb-ft of torque), a 1.5-liter four-cylinder (181 hp and 185 lb-ft of torque) and a turbocharged 2.0-liter four-cylinder (240 hp and 270 lb-ft of torque) which is a standard engine for Titanium trim. Front wheel drive is standard and optional all-wheel drive is exclusively mated to a 2.0-liter four-cylinder unit. Transmission options are still unavailable, but by looking at the test mule, we believe that Ford will offer its new 9-speed automatic, which is co-developed with GM.

Fuel economy rates are unavailable, and if Ford adds a 9-speeder into the equation, last model year’s rates will be significantly different. However, 2016 Ford Fusion Hybrid and Energi versions will have the same mileage as before. 2016 Ford Fusion Hybrid will offer 44 mpg city/41 mpg highway/42 mpg combined, and Energi 40 mpg city/36 mpg highway/38 mpg combined.
