2016 Kia Rio Changes, Released

Kia’s Rio model is available in two body styles, as a 5-door hatchback and as a 4-door sedan. 2016 Kia Rio made its first public appearance in the US earlier this year, since the model went through a facelift. Changes affected some exterior and interior changes, which we will speak about later in this article. South Korean automaker launched Rio for the first time back in 2000, and the model is currently in its third generation, which started back in 2011.

Changes on the latest Kia Rio for 2016 model year are mostly cosmetic. Its front and rear ends are revised, and here is what is changed exactly. Front grill which we saw at Optima and Soul models is now adopted. It has a geometric grille mesh pattern. Lower valance panel are now bolder, fog lights are also slightly revised with bezels, while headlights are moved slightly inward. Moving to the rear end of the 2016 Kia Rio, we see new taillights design and positioning. They are now moved further to the ends of the vehicle. The exterior tweaks are summed up with two new colors, including Urban Blue and Digital Yellow.

Interior changes include increased usage of high-density foam for A- and B- pillars, which will improve sound deadening. Beside this, new model year will bring few details in design and upgraded features. Available in LX, EX and SX trims, 2016 Kia Rio offers more luxurious touches throughout the line-up. Upper trims and equipment packages get even more. The EX trim now could be enhanced with new Designer Package which offers new interior trim combining black cloth and gray leatherette. Eco Package comes with upgraded UVO eServices Telematics with rearview camera. Top trim SX among other amenities now offers leather seats, upgraded navigation system with SiriusXM Traffic, power sunroof and Smart Key.

Under the hood of the 2016 Rio, both hatch and sedan, is placed a 1.6-liter inline four-cylinder engine. It is capable to deliver 138 hp and 123 lb-ft of torque. The power is transmitted to front wheels via 6-speed manual or 6-speed automatic gearbox. The transmission standards depend on body style. While automatic is standard on the 2016 Rio hatch, manual is base on sedan. Fuel economy is recently rated by EPA and according to those rates, new Rio will be able to deliver 27 mpg in city, 38 mpg on the highway, and 31 mpg in combined ride with manual gearbox. With automatic, 2016 Kia Rio will return 27/37/31 mpg city/hwy/combined.

2016 Kia Rio Price and Release Date

Kia’s 2016 Rio debuted at this year Chicago Auto Show, while the release of the model is expected any time now. Pricing of the model is not revealed yet, but the prices are expected to stay in the same range as for previous model year, with small increase. This means that base 2016 Rio sedan and hacth should start slightly under $15,000.
