2016 Kia Sorento Redesign, Engine

Kia, South Korea’s automobile manufacturer caught the car market by surprise with the launch of its 2016 Kia Sorento. The model, which was refreshed just recently, for 2014 model year, now comes fully redesigned, and begins a new generation. Experts claim that the reason Kia decided to do so, is in its materials, which lagged in quality behind its competition. Whatever the reason is for this redesign, we are more than pleased to see and present to you the most important specs of the 2016 Kia Sorento.

Starting with the basics, new Sorento will feature dimension changes. The wheelbase of the new 2016 model will be around 3 inches longer than before, while its width and length will also get few inches. This enables more space on the inside, and it is more suitable for three row 7-passenger configuration Kia offers as optional in its Sorento SUV. The styling alterations were inspired by Kia’s Cross GT concept, but new Sorento doesn’t take the same path as the concept vehicle. Their front end look alike but 2016 Sorento is more subtle than the concept. Headlights are narrower, fog lights are more accentuated as well as lower intakes. LED technology is provided for the 2016 Kia Sorento, as optional, while wheels received new design.

2016 Kia Sorento will continue to offer five trim levels as before, and it will include L, LX, EX, SX, and Limited variants. Interior is upgraded both in design and materials quality, while South Korean manufacturer went a step further in its feature offerings as well.

2016 Kia Sorento Performance and Fuel Economy

Under the hood of the 2016 Kia Sorento are placed same old and some new engines. Both 2.4-liter four-cylinder and 3.3-liter V-6 units will still be available, although improved, while Kia added 2.0-liter turbocharged four-cylinder engine between them. Kia enhanced a 2.4-liter unit with a electronic continuously variable valve timing, while V6 towing rates are significantly better than for previous model (towing max is 1500 pounds more). The 2.4-liter 4-cylinder is standard engine with 185 horsepower and 178 pound-feet of torque. The V6 unit is available only for models with three row seating arrangement, and it is good for 290 hp and 252 lb-ft of torque. New engine will be available only for two row seating arrangement and it will be able to produce 240 horsepower and 260 lb-ft of torque. Transmission choice is the same for all engines, and it is a six-speed automatic. Front wheel drive is standard for all trims, while all wheel drive is available as optional for all trims beside base L. When it comes to fuel economy, 2016 Sorento FWD with 2.4-liter engine under the hood will return 21 mpg city / 29 mpg highway, with V6 18 mpg city / 26 mpg highway and with new 2.0-liter 20 mpg city / 27 mpg highway. The AWD Sorento offers 21 mpg city / 26 mpg highway (2.4-liter), same mileage with V6 and 19 mpg city / 25 mpg highway.

2016 Kia Sorento Release Date and Price

Kia Sorento debuted at the 2014 Paris Auto Show, and it is already available for sale. It starting MSRP is $24,900, LX – $26,200-$28,300, EX – $31,100-$31,700, SX – $37,900 and Limited $39,900-$41,300.
