2017 Kia Sportage Review, Engine

2017 Kia Sportage is set to debut the fourth generation of the Sportage lineup sometimes next year as a 2017 model. The compact crossover first made an appearance in Frankfurt Auto Show in September and for the first time it was showcased in the recently concluded LA Auto Show in the US. The Kia model comes with a better looking exterior profile and is more fuel efficient but it comes with a slightly lower power output than the model it is replacing.

The exterior has received a number of new changes. To start with, the model’s length has been increased to 176.4 inches, a 1.6 –inch increase but the width remains unchanged at 73.0 inches. Its wheelbase has been slightly enlarged to 105.1 inches from 1033.9 inches. The vehicle retains its signature “tiger nose’ grille. The grille is flanked on both sides by LED fog lights and headlights. However, the headlights have been pushed to the top of the fenders. At the back, the vehicle features LED taillights. The crossover will ride on 19-inch wheels.

On the inside, the 2017 Kia Sportage features a pleasant styling which features an uncluttered layout combined with soft-touch materials mixed with metal accents. The cabin features loads of technology features including an updated infotainment system offering multiple connectivity options. It also features a number of electronic driver aids which include lane departure warning, emergency braking, blind spot warning as well as rear cross-traffic warning. Due to increase in length, there is increased legroom as well as cargo capacity which increase from 26.1 cu ft to 30.7 cu ft. Other standard features on the base trim are a 5.0 inch touch-screen integrated with Bluetooth connectivity, a rear camera and SiriusXM satellite radio. The EX comes with a 7-inch display with a UVO3 infotainment system featuring Wi-Fi connectivity, Apple CarPlay, Android Auto and access to onscreen apps. The top SX Turbo packs an 8-inch touch-screen as well as an onboard navigation system.

Under the hood, the 2017 Kia Sportage will feature two drive-trains. The LX and EX trim levels will be powered by a 2.4 L, 4-cylinder engine capable of delivering 181 hp and 175 lb-ft of torque. The top SX Turbo trim is powered by a 2.0 L, turbocharged engine capable of pumping 241 hp and 260 lb-ft of torque. The engines will be mated to a 6-speed automatic transmission system channeling power either to the front wheels or all wheels. There are no details about the engines fuel economy, top speed or acceleration as of this writing, so keep coming back for more updates on the 2017 Kia Sportage. However, the automaker has intimated that the model will deliver a better fuel economy than the outgoing models.

The automaker has not announced price and release date details as of this writing. We are expecting this information to be availed when the model nears its release which is scheduled for either the 2nd or 3rd quarter of 2016.
